PhD Management

The PhD Management is a research-focused doctoral degree program that aims to prepare doctoral candidates for successful careers in advanced management scholarship and thought leadership within and outside of academia. Our program places emphasis on cross-disciplinary research paradigms and methods that encompass new ways to approach and advance complex societal / organizational challenges.

Program Experience

In the PhD Management, candidates move from initial courses through comprehensive exams to thesis research, defence, and submission.听 It is designed to be completed within four years on a full-time basis or up to eight years on a part-time basis.

Coursework in the PhD Management is delivered on-campus (in-person).

Candidates for admission into the PhD Management program must hold a Master's degree with a thesis, or its equivalent, from a recognized university. Certain conditions may allow the admissions committee to consider an applicant without a research-based Master鈥檚 degree. Please reach out to听phdmgmt@dal.ca听to learn more.

Applying to the PhD Management involves four steps:

Step #1: Apply to 9 1免费版下鈥檚 Harmonized Scholarship Process (Deadline is January 15). The Harmonized Scholarship Process allows you to apply for several Faculty of Graduate Studies-managed scholarships using a single online application. You are not required to be accepted into a 9 1免费版下 graduate program to apply for these scholarships. However, you must identify the graduate program you intend to apply for in your scholarship application to facilitate the review process. If you have missed the deadline, it may still be possible for you to be considered for internal (faculty-level) funding opportunities provided your completed application is submitted by February 18, 2025.

Step #3: Complete the and pay the application fee.

Step #4: Submit the necessary supporting documents (below).听 Documents should be submitted electronically to phdmgmt@dal.ca

  • At least two letters of references
  • Official Transcripts (Undergrad & Master鈥檚)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement (see below)
  • English proficiency (as per FGS regulations)

Personal Statement should include the following information (less than 1000 words):

  • Potential research interests / intended area of focus
  • Potential supervisor and how our faculty connects to your goals. Note: our PhD programs require that your supervisor be identified as part of the application process. By naming a potential supervisor in this statement, you are indicating that this faculty member will confirm their support for your application to the program. Research potential and existing capacity as demonstrated through previous research, volunteer / community service, and work experience.
  • Career objectives and long-range goals; how your prior experiences / studies connect to these goals; how a PhD might help advance these goals.
  • Any other information that is relevant to your application
