A message from Carolyn Watters, Vice-President Academic and Provost, and Ian Nason, Vice-President Finance and Administration (Acting):
We have received confirmation from the Government of Nova Scotia that the university operating grant envelope will be increased by one per cent for the 2014-15 fiscal year. This is a welcome development following multiple years of funding cuts, and certainly a move in the right direction. However, given inflationary and other cost pressures combined with continued effects from previous cuts, the funding increase does not eliminate our budget challenges.
Towards the end of February Dal’s Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) will:
1. Release its Draft 2014-15 Operating Budget Plan including:
- Proposed recommendations that will be the basis for the development of the 2014-15 budget
- Proposed tuition fee schedule
2. Release the draft report on this year’s proposed changes to auxiliary/ancillary fees.
These will be followed by consultation sessions on tuition and auxiliary/ancillary fees tentatively scheduled for the week of March 3-7. Look for more details in the near future.
