ACENETprovides advanced research computing resources, expertise, consulting and training to post-secondary researchers, students and collaborators throughout AtlanticCanada. Advanced computing entails computationally and/or data intesnive work that is beyond the capabilities of a desktop, including high performance, big data and GPUcomputing. It also includes developing cloud-based platforms and portals for research communities, storage and large-scale file transfer.
The following training sessions areavailableto researchers and studentsacross all disciplines, as well as industry innovators. Please register prior to the sessions at the links below or on theACENET training page.
ACENET BASICS
Introduction to ACENET & Compute Canada
What is high performance computing (HPC) and what can it do for me? How canACENET help? Used by researchers across many disciplines to tackleanalyses toolarge or complex for a desktop, or to achieve improved efficiency over adesktop, this session takes participants through the preliminary stages oflearning about HPC and computing clusters, and how to get started with thistype of computing.
19 May, 10:30-11:30am Atlantic
21 May, 1:00-2:00pm Atlantic
Introduction to Linux
In this session, learn how to get started with Linux, how to create andnavigate directories for your data, load files, manage your storage, runprograms on thecomputing clusters, and set file permissions.
20 May, 10:30-11:30am Atlantic
21 May, 2:30-3:30pm Atlantic
Introduction to Shell Scripting
Participants will learn how to use shell scripting to exercise the power of thecommand line. Shell scripting helps you save time, automate file managementtasks, and better use Linux. This session teaches you how to name, locate andset permissions for executable files, taking input and producing output.

ACENET PARALLEL COMPUTING SCHOOL
This school seeks to educate participantsin some tools and techniques used in high-performance computing and scientificcomputation. Topics will includegeneral parallel computing, Dask, MachineLearning by example, OpenMP, GPGPU, and Message Passing Interface(MPI). Each two-hour session will include alecture and learning exercises.Participants will be provided take-home exercises to prepare for the nextsession. Between sessions, online office hours will beprovided for extrahelp.
The course is aimed at researchers and innovators, both academic andindustrial.
Participants must have familiarity with the Unix command line, suchas onemight have on completion of the ACENET Basics series, and some level ofprogramming experience. Participants must also have a Compute Canadaaccount.
